Virtual Private Server (VPS)

What is Virtual Private Server (VPS)?

A VPS, or virtual private server, is a type of multi-tenant cloud hosting in which a cloud or hosting provider makes virtualized server resources available to an end user through the internet.

Each VPS is installed on a real server that hosts many VPSs and is managed by the cloud or hosting provider. Despite the fact that the VPSs share a hypervisor and underlying hardware, each VPS runs its own operating system (OS) and applications, as well as reserving a portion of the machine's resources (memory, compute, etc.).

VPSes fall midway between multi-tenant shared hosting and single-tenant dedicated hosting in terms of performance, flexibility, and control. While it may seem counterintuitive that a multi-tenant VPS arrangement would be referred to as "private" when single-tenant options are available, the term "VPS" is most commonly used by traditional hosting providers to distinguish it from shared hosting, which is a hosting model in which all of a physical machine's hardware and software resources are shared equally among multiple users.

Advantages of VPS:

1. Stay away from the Noisy Neighbor Syndrome.

When comparing shared, VPS, and dedicated hosting, shared hosting is comparable to renting an apartment. It will disturb your sleep if you share a wall with a neighbour who blasts his music at 3 a.m. To put it another way, if another customer suddenly starts consuming an excessive amount of resources, your site on the same shared server will slow down or even go offline.

VPS hosting is comparable to living in a city apartment. Even though you don't share walls with anyone else, your next-door neighbour is close enough to keep you awake if they crank up the music. You'll have to pay a little more for privacy.

2. Devoted Personnel

One of the numerous advantages of VPS hosting is that all of your server resources are solely dedicated to your company. In most circumstances, a VPS will also provide you with greater resources than shared hosting. You won't have to share your CPU, RAM, storage, or bandwidth with anyone else.

3. Quickness

Your site's performance on shared hosting is determined by the amount of resources used by other sites on the server at any given time. Shared hosts must try to set up the server to work with a variety of website configurations.

A VPS can be tuned to perform as effectively as possible for your website. A firm adopting managed VPS would realise hosting benefits such as higher performance due to more specific configurations.

4. Value and Affordability

While VPS hosting is more expensive than shared hosting, it is not nearly as expensive as dedicated hosting. A high-performance VPS from Liquid Web is not much more expensive than other shared hosting options. When comparing the benefits of VPS hosting to shared hosting, it's easy to understand why a VPS is a much better bargain, especially when considering managed VPS hosting.

5. Control and Access

Owners of shared hosting sites have minimal control over the software that is put on their servers. Businesses who rent VPS hosting will profit from the ability to run only the services they require.

6. Flexibility

If your site suddenly receives a spike in traffic, as is common during Black Friday sales, you'll need to be able to expand your server resources to keep up with the demand. This type of fluctuation might bring a shared server to a standstill, especially if other sites on the server are experiencing the same problem. Not only can a VPS often absorb these increases, but if your site suddenly needs more resources, VPS servers may readily enhance your resources.

7. Adaptability

A VPS can be used for a variety of purposes, including gaming, email, and project management servers. If you use WordPress multisite, you'll notice that huge multisite networks consume more resources, causing a shared server to crash.

8. Operating System and Software Independence

You won't be able to execute specific software applications on many shared hosts. For example, most don't allow streaming software or game servers.

You may typically choose your preferred operating system with a VPS. You can choose from the best operating systems available, such as Ubuntu, Cloudlinux, or Debian.

Long-term scalability is number Nine.

As your company expands, you will undoubtedly require additional resources for your website. You may easily upgrade to a larger VPS or a dedicated server with a Liquid Web VPS.
